As a Gen Z, I choose commitment over casual. This movie validated everything I believe about lasting love.

My elder sister told me straight up: “You won’t understand this movie.” The film was Metro… In Dino (Metro These Days), and her reason was simple, it’s about love, and she thought I was too young to understand it well. But only I know how much I truly understand the heart. So, I watched it. And I’m so glad I did. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to sit through a movie without once reaching for the skip button. Even though it was a musical, with people often narrating their stories through song, the music was so beautiful and soothing that it kept me hooked. I almost dropped it at the start, but I kept watching, and I found the exact feel-good, honest movie I’ve been searching for.
This movie tells the stories of many people at once. It gives us an honest, true look at the different stages, sacrifices, and surprises that love brings throughout life. It skips the fairy tale and shows us the beautiful, messy reality of relationships, careers, and the pressure people feel to get “settled.”
The story unfolds across various chapters of life, revealing that there is no single, perfect blueprint for love:
When Love Starts: We see the nascent stirrings of identity and attraction through the eyes of a teenage girl, who openly and bravely asks, “How am I supposed to know if I like boys or girls?”, a simple question that captures the complexity of finding one’s first love.
The Pressure to Conform: We follow the journey of the youngest daughter, caught between the societal expectation to “get settled” (a life she sees mirrored in her family) and a magnetic pull toward a free-spirited traveler. Her choice highlights the conflict between a life of comfortable adjustment and the risk of genuine connection.
The Post-Honeymoon Collision: Next, the film examines a young, recently-married couple who rush into a life of family and corporate stability under social pressure. Their story captures the painful moment where dreams collide, forcing them to question if they married the right person or just the right idea.
The Fading Spark: There is this elder daughter, whose marriage has lost its intimacy, leading to moments of guilt and distance, as they both seeks a temporary escape from a connection that has grown cold and routine.
The Empty Nest Reflection: At the center is the mother, who, having poured her entire being into her role, now stands in a house full of love but lacking purpose. Her deep realization that her “only worth is like the picture on the living room wall” is a heartbreaking look at what happens when a person’s dreams forget them.
The Ultimate Sacrifice: Finally, the story of an elderly man and his daughter-in-law shows that the deepest act of love is sometimes letting go, as he chooses a difficult path for her to leave and finally chase the life she put on hold.
This journey through different lives is a powerful look at the fight between having a career and having a family, the need for stability, and why you must always hold onto yourself inside any relationship.
The world today is saturated with stories about casual dating and “situationships.” But this movie did something powerful: it showed us the true strength of real, committed love. While other content often makes it seem okay to avoid deep connection, this film beautifully portrays what happens when you decide to fully lean in and fight for a life together.
That is why I immediately wrote down these beautiful lessons from the movie — these are the truths I will always want to remember:
You must choose love everyday: You don’t just fall in love once. If you want to spend your whole life with someone, you have to fall in love with the same person again and again. After a while, the initial excitement of love can fade. That’s when you have to hold on tight, keep finding new ways to love each other, and always be ready to forgive. Love isn’t a destination; it’s a constant journey you choose to take together.
Courage is Key to Your Heart’s Desire: How often do we know exactly what we want, what our heart is truly asking for, but we never find the courage to go get it? This movie reminded me that knowing is not enough; you must act. Whether it’s choosing a career, leaving a dead-end situation, or saying “yes” to real love, the best things in life are always on the other side of fear.
Love is Complicated, But Worth it: Yes, love is messy. It’s complicated, it causes arguments, and it often demands sacrifice. But this movie shows that it is also the most beautiful and rewarding thing that will ever happen in your life. Don’t run from the complexity; embrace it, because that is where the real connection lies.
Tough Decisions are Sometimes the Kindest Ones: saw characters who had to go the hard way to break some relationships by force, simply to allow the other person to live a better, truer life. This is a difficult lesson: sometimes, the greatest act of love is giving someone their freedom, even if it means pain for you.
This movie was exactly what I needed in this chaotic world, a story full of genuine laughs, love, tears, and goodness. It’s a film that leaves you hopeful and a little wiser.
