An unforgettable Obituary of a person I never heard about
10/27/20252 min read

I don't usually read newspaper because you only find bad news in newspaper. But last saturday I was alone in my home, I woke up and saw this obituary on the front page of newspaper. The heading was very interesting so I read a little bit and understood what a beautiful obituary it was about a person called "Piyush". I kept the newspaper aside and decided to make a good breakfast and read it while having my breakfast.
I made pasta, sat on the dining table and started reading it. And I couldn't stop smiling. Why smiling? It's an obituary, you're not supposed to be happy about it. But it's not just me, everyone who would have read this one would be smiling because like them I also got the chance to know about such an amazing personality, such a vibrant man that he affected people living with him, working with him all in a good way.
For those who don't know who this man was, he was Piyush Pandey, popularly known as father of Indian Advertising, who gave revolutionalized Indian Ads Industry. He was also awarded with Padma Shri in 2016.
And this obituary was written as a tribute by Ogilvy, the advertising agency he worked with.
This one page left me sad, smiling, and gave me lessons also. I learnt that:
He never took his work like work, he always enjoyed this work.
He was such a big fan of cricket that he used to use words like "well played" when praising someone, "we won if the client liked the idea.
People remember him by his laugh, he used to laugh loudly and whole heartedly, and his moustache.
People used to trust him when he said "Trust me". In the obituary they wrote that Piyush always used to say, "You can't win someone's trust by just saying trust me, you'll only win their trust by doing, showing them that you've done the work they expected from you".
He used to do a lot of things, all by himself. Experience comes from doing.
Piyush had a lot of close friend, They wrote that if piyush had instagram, he would be knowing every single follower personally, where each follower thinking that Piyush is their best friend. Such a powerful skill in such a hollow world of social media, fake friendships and relationships like situations. For valued relationships very closely.
His way of work life balance: 100% work, 100% life. So both 100%.
He didn't earn the fame, his work earned the fame.
Such a beautiful start of the morning it was. Sad, light, but learnt a lot about life, value of relationships, knowledge and work.
